Hawk's Nest State Park located Ansted WV, is a known location for sight seeing. Many activites include tram rides where you are taken to the bottom of the Gorge for a small fee and can dine at Smokeys on the Gorge, parks, camp sites, white water rafting, hiking trails, biking trails and capturing great panoramic views on camera. Just remember most of the locations require considerable walking whether through trails or down countless steps! So bring your hiking boots or sneakers and make sure your up for a day of activiy!
The Lover's Leap at Hawk's Nest in Hawk's Nest State Park in the town of Ansted West Virginia, USA, along the historic Midland Trail has a drop of 585 ft from a high bluff overlooking the New River Gorge. The promontary was named "Lover's Leap" by settlers, and has acquired an urban legend involving two young Native Americans from different tribes. As legend has it their parents forbid the relationship and so the young lovers decided to end their lives by jumping off the 585 ft cliff together.
New River Gorge Bridge is a structure of amazing statistics. 3030 feet long. 876 feet high. 70 feet wide. 88 million pounds of U.S. Cor Ten steel and American cement. Opened and dedicated on October 22, 1977, the span has since become the symbol of West Virginia. New River Gorge Bridge is Host to the popular activity in the Mountain State known as Bridge Day.
